Parents are reminded not to give too much extra work to their children at this age. Instead, have a 15 - 20 minute period of studying one subject, followed by a short break in the middle and then recommencing on a different subject for a further 15 minutes is more than adequate.
Shared reading by parents at their children's bedtime is also encouraged.
Skill and drill on a daily basis is not encouraged at this age level, but rather using oral instruction to verify your child's acquisition and application of knowledge is a much better way to connect .
Homework should be seen as an extension of classroom activities and as such should be an add on to what was learned in the classroom during the day.
